Anytime you would like to learn more about a subject, SC Discus is a great place to start. If you haven't used it before and would like some help, ask your librarian! It is a great site to look around and become familiar with because you will surely use it for research and more at some point in your scholarly journey. Check it out today!
Our students learned about International Day of Peace on September 21st, created by the United Nations as a day of non-violence around the world. Students wore shirts that represent peace and read peace books found in our library.
We celebrated International Dot day in the library by giving students the opportunity to 'make their mark' by creating their own dots that we put on display in the hallway!
The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
We read the book and discussed how we can encourage each other the way the characters in the book did; and then we all loved wearing dots to school to celebrate!
Carver-Lyon students were able to eat breakfast with their grandparents in the library to celebrate Grandparents Day. Thank you for all you do to support your grandchildren!
Students from Ms. Hernandez's classes learned to use Discus to research South Carolina ahead of South Carolina Day. Using the information found from the many resources available in Discus, the students created South Carolina Day floats from shoe boxes. The students presented their finished projects in the library, and they are amazing! The projects are on display in the library and available to view through September 5th. We are so proud of our scholars!

My name is Kristen DeAnne Anderson, and I am your school librarian. I am married with three children ages 15, 9, and 3, and I love reading (obviously!), spending time with family and friends, and traveling. I have always loved journeying into the new worlds that books can take us to, and that is what led me to want to become a school librarian. I attended the Master of Library and Information Science program at the University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks!), and I am beyond thrilled to be here to help you navigate all our library has to offer. I'm Ms. Sims, your friendly, neighborhood Library Assistant. I have a ten-year old daughter, Alyssa, and a fur baby named Callie (p.s. she's my dog). When I actually have free time, I enjoy reading (of course), knitting, and listening to music. Some of my favorite things are fluffy pyjamas, Squishables, and dark chocolate candy. I'm excited about all the wondrous reading adventures we'll have.
